My Dorm Tour

My College Dorm Tour! - Seekingthesouthblog.blogspot.com

A while back (August to be exact), I posted a couple pictures of my dorm room from the day that I moved in. Well, it wasn't exactly finished at that point so I've decided to show you what my dorm room looks like after three months! I've also had some pondering minds asking where I got my decor so I'll do my best to remember!

It's hard not to laugh at this picture, even for me. So many things are so wrong. I guess the first thing you'll notice is the Leaning Tower of Pisa, oops I mean our bookshelf. Yeah after we put it up we realized it's not supposed to be used vertically. Oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do. Above the shelf is our "friendship frame," which has pictures of Mary (my roommate!) and I from this summer when we bonded, and a little Texas art I made (notice it's not centered). Then you'll notice our orchid. His name is Leonard and he's the closest thing we have to a pet. (Thanks for Leonard, Kiki!) Then our sad little TV. It may be small in size, but whats on the inside is what counts. And when I say inside I mean the HGTV channel. Inside our leaning shelf is my collection of shirts I've accumulated via my big (check it out here). I'm already running out of room... oops. Then to the right you'll see my blanket I received at initiation covering the cute storage ottoman purchased at HomeGoods!

As you can see, my wall has accumulated a little art since I first posted it (thanks biggie). The gold collage frames were both gifts, but were different colors. Nothing a little gold spray paint can't change! The football schedule was written in chalk paint on chalkboard paper by my mom! My monogram above my bed was also a gift, but you can find one similar here. I painted the raw wood coral to match my color scheme and my mom added the burlap ribbon to hang it up! As for my bedding, the sheets and two navy pillows were purchased from HomeGoods (I'm obsessed with this store), the white comforter and sham and coral quilt were both purchased at Target, and the monogrammed pillow and headboard were made for me by Mary's mother! (Tip #1 for anyone shopping for their dorm: invest in a great pillow. I highly suggest a Tempurpedic one.)

Well this is a lot for your eyes to take in. I'm not one of those bloggers who has a gorgeous, Pinterest-worthy desk, that's completely tidy and clean. Nope, I'm a busy college student taking classes, juggling greek life and other extra-curriculars. But I'm not really sorry about it. To the very left is my tassel garland (which you can learn how to make here) with my many, many photos of my friends from home. Next is my makeup organizer, makeup mirror and brush holder (I found it for a dollar at Target!).  (Tip #2: Get a makeup mirror that lights up- you never know when you'll be getting ready in the dark!) The adorable clear lamp was also purchased by Mary's mom. Another essential is this hutch to add more vertical space on your desk- trust me, you'll need it. More goodies on my desk include this stapler, desk organizer, clock and two frames from HomeGoods! (Tip #3: Make your desk your happy place- you'll be there plenty)

Ah the best part of the room: food. Our lovely MicroFridge. TCU provides a MicroFridge to every dorm, but the tricky part is that you're not allowed to bring one yourself. Let me tell you, it's not easy fitting two girls' food in one tiny fridge. We make it work, but if you have the option, bring your own fridge for yourself. Only one microwave is fine, though! The cups and bowls were all purchased at Target about a week after we moved in and realized we had nothing to eat our cereal out of! We also bought these nifty little sporks. (Tip #4: buy some disposable cutlery as well for those days you just don't want to do dishes) We bought this great fridge cart and it's worked out so well- you definitely need one of these!

And last but not least- this cool poster from Homecoming this year! You've gotta add a little school spirit to your room, especially when you're #6 in the nation! Go Frogs!

Edit: since posting this we have reorganized our room to make room for Christmas decorations!

  5. Your dorm is so cute! It definitely shows a lot of your personality. I love that you turned your shelf to make it vertical even though it wasn't meant to be! I also love all of your artwork! The sparkling Texas painting is so cute, and I love your monogram! Y'all definitely made use of every square inch and got creative with storage. I must admit, I don't miss the small living quarters, but I do miss the fun dorm memories!

  6. So cute! Agreed that dorm rooms are not the easiest to decorate, especially because of the size, but I love how you decorated yours!
