STS Sundays: Don't Be Scared For the New Year! [God's Got You!] - Seekingthesouthblog.blogspot.com
I went to church last night with my mom because we had tickets to the Chiefs game today! What a great win and [not too chilly] weather! At church the head pastor, Adam, was taking a much-deserved break after preaching to over 30,000 people on Christmas Eve, so there was a great guest pastor from a different campus. Anyway, she had a great message that I thought would be perfect to share for today's STS Sunday. It's been a few weeks since I've done one, so catch up with the previous posts here, here and here.

As the Christmas season has come and gone, people's spirits really drop. Yeah Christmas was great, but suddenly everyone realizes that 2014 is almost over and we have a brand new year up ahead. The pastor at my church made a great point that with new years comes new fears. Fear that 2015 could bring money issues, relationship issues, work issues, school issues, etc. It's hard not to be scared of something so unknown. But what we forget way too much is that one thing is certain is that God will always be with us. How cool is that? Absolutely nothing in this world is certain except for the presence of God. He will always, always be there, so why is there any reason to be afraid?

"If God is for us, who can be against us?" -Romans 8:31

It's so incredibly to be afraid of little things, such as a horrible grade on an exam or a rejection from a love interest. But think about it in logical terms. God has control of absolutely everything in your life. What ever happens in your life is in His plan. There are only two possible outcomes. 1) You will get exactly what you'd hoped for 2) You don't get what you'd hoped for, but it's for the better, whether or not you think it or not. Isn't He so good? He's always got your best interest in mind.

They played this song at church and my mom and I both loved it so I had to share. Plus it has a pretty awesome message!!

I really hope this brought a little bit of tranquility to your anxious heart. I know sometimes it can be so hard to remember that God's got a greater plan, especially for me. Hoping everyone the best in the new year! Keep sending your prayers to God, because He knows what's best!!

  1. Matthew West is a great artist who always speaks to my heart of what I am feeling. I do agree that people's spirits start to get down after Christmas. One thing I like to do to prevent myself from getting down is to NOT make resolutions, but rather to make goals for the future months to come

  2. This was a great reminder. God's plans for us are always the best. I'm making it a point to not fuss and worry.

  3. I remember a time when the day after Christmas was always a little sad because all the hustle and bustle was over and there was that lonely, empty tree. but God is still on the throne and the last few years I've looked at after Christmas as a new beginning and not as an end of all things fun. God truly does have this and I'm looking forward to what he has in store for me in 2015.

  4. Sometimes the hardest thing to remember is the simplest promise God makes to us--he's got it! Great reminder!

  7. It's so easy to let the negativity of the world and society in general cloud your spirit and sour your heart. So much easier than giving up your worries to God and letting him take care of everything. After all, that's what he's there for! This was a nice reminder to worry about your next step, rather than dwelling on the ones you've already taken. Thank you! Have a beautiful and blessed New Year, Emma!
