Caitlyn & Kaitlyn... And Other Things Going on in Pop Culture

There's quite a lot going on in the pop culture world, and I just couldn't help myself from addressing my thoughts on a few of them.

The first thing I want to address is Caitlyn Jenner. I'm sure this is not the first thing you've read about this and it definitely won't be the last. We've been seeing tabloids and TV specials for weeks now saying Bruce Jenner wanted to be a woman but it all became very real when Vanity Fair released their June issue with new Caitlyn Jenner on the cover.

I've seen so many conflicting blog posts and tweets about this extremely controversial topic and some just hurt my heart. One argument is the "Christian" view, saying Bruce was born a man, so he should stay a man. To that I say, no. Bruce may have physically been born a man but mentally a woman. He has the right to alter his body to fit how he feels. Another argument is that she's just confused. Excuse me what? Do you just suddenly decide you want to become a woman? No. Caitlyn has been thinking about this her whole life and has finally worked up the courage to do this. 50 years of thinking. That's the opposite of thinking irrationally, folks. There are so many other [unnecessary] arguments but here's what I feel:

I think this is absolutely amazing and requires a lot of courage to do. Even if you're used to a life full of paparazzi and TV cameras following you around, there's never an easy way to share a life-altering secret to the whole world. Caitlyn is so brave to be doing this. Anyone should feel comfortable to be themselves, because it's their life and they should get to do whatever they feel is right. What's even better about this whole story is the fact that so many people follow the Jenner/Kardashian clan so closely, this will make so many fans feel comfortable in their own bodies and maybe change a few lives. No one should have to live a lie, no matter what it is. Way to go Caitlyn.

So I wrote a post a while ago about The Bachelorette but ended up deleting it before I posted it because it didn't work. But here I am giving a shot at round two. The backstory to me and The Bachelorette is that I've never watched a Bachelor or Bachelorette until this season. I don't really understand these shows because wtf, one girl is dating like, 20 guys at once? In what century is that normal? And vice versa, one guy dating 20 girls is weird. It all seems very fake and scripted to me, but alas I am addicted. Maybe it's the [adorable] guys because I am not a fan of Kaitlyn.

If you follow The Bachelorette you know it's week three and there's already been plenty of drama. Here's a super-speedy-quick recap for any of y'all who haven't been following along. Kaitlyn was named Bachelorette. Some guy got hammered on the first night and was sent home. A few guys left because they didn't want Kaitlyn. Kupah went insane and was sent home. Some of the guys wore man diapers (and sumo wrestled). Clint flips the f--- out. Ben Z. is a super sweetheart. Clint and JJ are supposedly gay for each other. And finally, Kaitlyn gets pissed at Clint and we expect him to be sent home next episode.

Phew. Sorry that was super fast. But I only wanted to give y'all a taste in case you decide to go back and watch the episodes on your own!

Now on to Lauren Conrad. I've always been such a big LC fan. Although I never followed Laguna Beach or The Hills back in the days when it was on MTV, I've followed her while she's been building her empire (including having the most perfect wedding ever). Well, LC has done it again.

Lauren announced on her blog Monday that from now on, her website will be banning body shaming words, including "skinny" (except when referring to skinny jeans). Lauren plans to post about being healthy throughout the month of June, but will be using words such as "toned," "fit" and "healthy," instead of "skinny," "thin" or "slim."

Honestly Lauren, you're amazing. So many girls look up to Lauren of all ages, from ladies my age that have followed her since her MTV roots, to young girls that idolize her style. She's one of the few celebrities from our childhood that hasn't gone crazy [exhibit A, B & C] and now she's making an awesome impact on her fans. Why should we feel the need to be skinny? We shouldn't! We should be fit and healthy! I'm so glad Lauren reminded us of that.

And finally, the least important (well, I guess The Bachelorette wasn't really important either) news. Kim Kardashian is pregnant with Kanye West's child.... again. Yay? All I have to really say about this is don't name it South. Please. Oh, and don't give it a reality TV show. It already has you two as parents. Thanks.
