Don't Let Your Valentine's Day Suck

I'm not one of those girls who has a really strong opinion on Valentine's Day. I don't loathe it because I'm single, but I also don't get excited for it either. I appreciate the color combo of pink & red and I love the easy accessibility to all things chocolate. I don't, however, enjoy instagram captions such as "couldn't ask for a better valentine" or "couples only" specials at restaurants. I know some girls absolutely hate even the mention of the dreaded V-word, and for that reason, I write this post. I'm a firm believer that Valentine's Day allows you a free pass of some sort. If you're on a diet: screw it and eat pizza. If it's 3 in the afternoon: put your pj's on. There aren't many rules on the 14th of February, so take full advantage of it. Don't let V-Day ruin your mood.

My solution to a less-sucky Valentine's Day is a simple equation. Wine + Pizza + RomComs = happy. No if's, and's or but's about it. Add in some comfy pjs or sweats to celebrate that you're not in a too-tight bodycon dress in a stuffy steak restaurant for bonus points. Grab your galpals (BFFs, homies, squad, whatever you want to call them) and cuddle up for a night free from cooties (yes they actually exist).

Here's what you need for a successful equation:

Wine
If you're a poor college student like myself, opt for some inexpensive wine (it tastes better that way). Go for some Yellow Tail, Barefoot or Skinnygirl. If you're a very inexperienced winer (aren't we all though?) you could be really bold and go for some Franzia but try to respect yourself and avoid it if at all possible. Feeling fancy? Grab some cheap bubbly (champagne) and pop bottles to celebrate the single life.

Pizza
Papa Murphy's celebrates the holiday by offering heart-shaped pizzas, perfect for slicing up as a metaphor for the hearts you've broken. According to PopSugar, Papa Johns is also jumping on the heart-shaped pizza train, so if take-n-bake isn't your style, this is the option for you.

RomComs
This is a must-have for a Galentine's Day celebration. Some of my favorites include Trainwreck, Bridesmaids and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, but if you're on more of a Netflix-only kind of budget, check out Silver Linings Playbook, Legally Blonde, or Clueless.

Comfiness
This is the optional part (why aren't pants always optional?). Shop Riff Raff is an amazing boutique that has about a bajillion cute options for V-Day from super cute for going out or super comfy for staying in (hellllloooo elastic waistbands). They carry the shirt pictured above and many many others. (P.S. I'm obsessed with their brand new sunglasses, I need 12 pairs.)

I'm ready for a nice, relaxing weekend full of pizza and wine. Who's with me?! What are your Valentine's Day plans? I'd love to hear all about them!
